The Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Hon. (Ophot) Felix Akposi, KSJI, hosted the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Local Government Hall, Akamkpa. The historic meeting, described by many as a significant milestone in fostering synergy between governance and spirituality, underscored the Chairman’s commitment to engaging with spiritual leaders in shaping a prosperous future for the local government.

In his address, Hon. Akposi expressed profound gratitude to God for the privilege of interfacing with the spiritual fathers, acknowledging the delay in convening the meeting due to infrastructural challenges inherited by his administration. He cited the lack of adequate office spaces for himself and the executive council as a primary hurdle that had hindered timely engagements. Despite the short notice, the Chairman lauded the CAN leadership for their swift response, which he described as a testament to their unwavering commitment to the administration.

“God is the Ultimus and Supremus in all human engagements. I believe in God and place Him first in all I do. My emergence as Chairman is undoubtedly through the will of God,” he affirmed. Hon. Akposi pledged to accord the clergy their rightful place in his administration, emphasising the need for a collaborative effort to lay a solid foundation for a brighter future for Akamkpa. He called for inward reflection and a reformation of attitudes towards worship and the things of God, stressing that true transformation begins with a change in disposition.

“We are here to build a legacy that will endure. The better tomorrow we desire begins today, and we must commit ourselves to this noble cause,” he declared. As the festive season approached, the Chairman assured the clergy of his administration’s solidarity and unveiled a modest Christmas package as a gesture of goodwill.

In his response, Bishop (Dr) Martin Aquah, who led the CAN delegation, commended the Chairman for his humility and reverence for God. He acknowledged the challenges confronting the administration but expressed confidence in Hon. Akposi’s ability to restore normalcy and foster efficient governance. “We admire your graceful acknowledgment of God in all your endeavours. It is uplifting and sets the tone for transformative leadership,” he remarked.

Bishop Aquah also welcomed the Chairman’s call for reformation in worship practices, affirming the association’s readiness to align with divine direction in this endeavour. He expressed optimism that the partnership between the council and CAN would propel Akamkpa to enviable heights, leaving an indelible legacy for future generations.

In attendance at the meeting were the Vice Chairman of Council, Hon. Emilia Katame, the Secretary of Council, Mr. Christian Lawrence Attah and a host of others. The meeting culminated in a symbolic photo session and the distribution of the Christmas package to the clergy, sealing a memorable occasion of unity, faith, and shared vision for Akamkpa’s progress.
