In a symbolic and culturally significant visit, Dr Obah Edom Tawo, aspirant for the Obubra/Etung Federal House of Representatives seat, paid homage to the Kwididen and Clan Head of Adun Kingdom in Obubra Local Government Area, seeking royal blessings ahead of the election process.
The visit, marked by tradition and community engagement, underscored the importance of grassroots consultation and respect for ancestral authority as Dr Tawo formally begins his political journey to represent the people.
Receiving the delegation, HRM Patrick Erong, Kwididen of Adun Kingdom, expressed both surprise and admiration at the early arrival of the aspirant, noting that such punctuality reflected seriousness of purpose.
He acknowledged the challenging path ahead, particularly as Dr Tawo contests from the opposition, and offered prayers for strength, wisdom and resilience.
He emphasized the shared heritage and unity among the people of Obubra and neighboring communities, stressing that leadership must transcend divisions.
According to him, the people are not concerned with origins but with performance and accountability.
He lamented a pattern of elected representatives who fail to maintain contact with their constituents after attaining office, urging a departure from such practices.
The traditional leader affirmed that the Obubra Traditional Brothers Council stands in support of credible leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people.
He called for inclusive governance, noting that the community has long felt sidelined in decision-making processes.
Also present at the gathering were prominent traditional leaders, including HRH Ovarr Slyvanus Uduma Ovat, Clan Head of Ubibira and Acting Paramount Ruler of Obubra, and HRH Chief Enyam Louis, Clan Head of Osopong Clan, alongside other respected chiefs.
In his response, Dr Tawo expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception and described the visit as a necessary first step in his consultation with the people.
He recognized the pivotal role of traditional institutions in shaping community direction and pledged to maintain a close relationship with the kingdom.
He reiterated his commitment to effective representation, promising to prioritize the needs of youths, women and children. Dr Tawo assured the gathering that his campaign would be rooted in accessibility, accountability and continuous engagement with constituents.
Other community chiefs who were present also offered prayers and words of encouragement, collectively invoking divine guidance, protection and success for Dr Tawo as he embarks on the electoral journey.
