In every generation, leadership presents a choice between uncertainty and proven capacity. For the people of Akamkpa I State Constituency, that choice is neither abstract nor distant. It is embodied in the steady, experienced, and people-centered representation of Hon. Ntufam Okon Nyong Owuna, a man whose journey in public service reflects resilience, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to grassroots development.
Born into the respected royal lineage of Late Ntufam Owuna Ojong Akparawu Iyamba, Hon. Owuna’s life has been shaped by a deep sense of responsibility to community and tradition. From Akamkpa Town to the broader Cross River landscape, his rise has never been accidental. Armed with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and reinforced by notable professional affiliations, he brings both intellectual depth and practical wisdom to governance.
Yet, beyond credentials lies character. Before politics, he built a thriving business empire, creating jobs and empowering livelihoods through ventures such as Obassi Farms, Obassi Quarry, and Obassi Hotels. This foundation in enterprise did not only sharpen his managerial competence, it rooted him firmly in the everyday realities of his people. He understands struggle, growth, and the value of opportunity.
His entry into public service was marked by diligence and loyalty. From serving as Chief Press Secretary in Akamkpa Local Government to becoming Supervisor for Works, he demonstrated an uncommon ability to deliver results quietly but effectively. His transition to state-level responsibilities, including his role as Community Relations Officer and later Director General of the Rural Development Agency, further cemented his reputation as a bridge-builder and problem solver.
As Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Owuna brought innovation and structure to a critical sector, strengthening food security efforts and rural livelihoods. These roles were not merely positions held, they were platforms through which he impacted lives and strengthened institutions.
Today, as the Member representing Akamkpa I in the Cross River State House of Assembly, his influence is both visible and strategic. As Chairman of the House Committee on ICT and Public Affairs, and a key figure in committees spanning culture, tourism, water supply, and agriculture, he has positioned Akamkpa I at the intersection of development conversations that matter. His voice carries weight, not by noise, but by knowledge and consistency.
But perhaps his greatest strength lies beyond titles and offices. Hon. Ntufam Okon Owuna is widely regarded as a stabilising force, a man whose interventions in times of tension have restored calm across communities. His commitment to peacebuilding, unity, and inclusive dialogue has earned him trust not only within Akamkpa I but across neighbouring constituencies. In a time when leadership often divides, he unites.
His grassroots appeal is not manufactured. It is earned through years of accessibility, responsiveness, and genuine connection with the people. He listens, he engages, and he acts. Whether it is community development, youth empowerment, or conflict resolution, his approach remains the same: people first.
At a broader level, his loyalty to party ideals and respect for leadership have set him apart as a disciplined and dependable political figure. His decision in 2023 to step aside from a senatorial ambition in the interest of party unity speaks volumes about his character and foresight. Such restraint and maturity are rare, and they signal readiness for even greater responsibility.
To the good people of Akamkpa I, the question is not whether Hon. Owuna has done enough. The real question is whether the constituency can afford to lose a leader who combines experience, influence, and a genuine heart for service.
To the leadership of Cross River State and beyond, here stands a man who understands governance from the ground up, who has paid his dues, and who continues to deliver value without fanfare.
Re-electing Hon. Ntufam Okon Nyong Owuna is not just a political decision. It is a vote for continuity, stability, and purposeful representation. It is an affirmation that Akamkpa I chooses progress over experiment, substance over sentiment, and tested leadership over uncertainty.
The path forward is clear. The mandate must be renewed.
