Bendeghe Ekiem, a community in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State, witnessed a surge of political activity as Dr. Obah Edom Tawo formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Etung/Obubra Federal Constituency under the African Democratic Congress.
The declaration, which took place at the Bendeghe Town Council Hall, attracted a large and diverse crowd of supporters, filling the venue to capacity.
Attendees, comprising youths, women, elders, farmers and traders, gathered in what observers described as a demonstration of growing grassroots mobilisation across the constituency.

Supporters, many adorned in the party’s orange colours, waved banners and chanted slogans in solidarity with the aspirant, whose campaign message, “The Time for Service to the People is Now,” resonated throughout the event. Banners representing various wards, including Ajassor and Nsofang, highlighted what appeared to be coordinated support from different parts of the constituency.
Speaking at the event, Tawo emphasised the need for responsive and people-oriented representation, pledging to prioritise community development and inclusive governance if elected.

He said, “This declaration is not just about me; it is about our collective future as a people. The time has come for us to have a voice that truly represents our needs, our struggles, and our aspirations at the national level. I am stepping forward to serve, to listen, and to work with you to bring meaningful development to our constituency.”
He added, “We cannot continue with politics as usual. Our communities deserve better infrastructure, improved access to opportunities for our youths, and support for our farmers and traders. Together, we can build a constituency that works for everyone.”

The event also featured a structured organisation, with prior notification reportedly sent to the Nigeria Police Force in Ikom and the state leadership of the ADC, ensuring security and party coordination during the gathering.
