The Nigeria Police Force in Cross River State has arrested a media aide to Governor Bassey Otu, Friday Awade, over the alleged death of a guest under what authorities described as “unnatural circumstances.”
Awade, who serves as Senior Special Assistant on Media Advocacy to the governor, was taken into custody on April 23, 2026, and is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar.
The arrest followed the reported death of a social media content creator identified simply as Abel, said to have died under unclear circumstances.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Eitokpah, told journalists on Friday that the governor’s aide is assisting investigators in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The suspect is in our custody and is cooperating with the investigation into the alleged sudden and unnatural death,” the police spokesman said.
He, however, did not disclose further details, including the nature of the relationship between the deceased and the suspect, or the events leading to the death.
