President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and naming Taiwo Oyedele as his replacement.
The decision, conveyed in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, also affected the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who has been directed to step down.
According to the memo, Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State in the finance ministry, will now take over as the substantive Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
In the housing ministry, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister designate, while Dangiwa is to hand over to the Minister of State pending further processes.
The directive stated that all handing-over procedures must be concluded on or before April 23, 2026.
Akume said the reshuffle was aimed at “strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.
Tinubu thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours, while assuring cabinet members that efforts to reinvigorate governance would continue.
