The Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Hon. (Ophot) Felix Akposi KSJI, undertook a symbolic visit to the Ekonganaku community during the 2024 Christmas festivities, marking yet another milestone in his grassroots engagement. Accompanied by the Leader of Council, Hon. Princess Magdalene Asuquo, the Supervisory Councillor for Works and Infrastructure, Elder Abednego Etefia, and other cabinet members, the visit was described as a gesture of goodwill, not canvassing for votes but sharing the joy of the season.

The first point of call was the Ekonganaku Council of Chiefs, where the Chairman was warmly received by His Highness Obhon Awor Inyang and other community leaders. Elderly women were also present, underscoring the inclusivity of the gathering.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Akposi delivered greetings from the Governor, highlighting the essence of peace and unity in fostering community development. “The peace we are enjoying in Ekonganaku is from God. You are one, and in this oneness, you can make progress. My administration’s mantra, ‘Serve the People,’ encapsulates our commitment to making the people feel the impact of governance,” he said. He emphasised the need for collaboration, promising to base development on a thorough assessment of the community’s needs.

The Chairman underscored the significance of Ojuk North in the council’s developmental agenda, especially as the host to Lafarge, a major source of resources for the local government. He called for prayers and cooperation, stating, “We need your support and prayers. Pray for your son, Elder Abednego Etefia, pray for me, and let us work together to harness the opportunities around us.”

In a heartfelt response, the royal father commended the Chairman’s decision to prioritise grassroots engagement, a move he described as historic. “If this was electioneering, many would have said you are here to canvass for votes. But you’ve come not out of compulsion but goodwill. This proves your sincerity,” Obhon Inyang noted. Expressing his delight, Obhon Awor Inyang stated, “This singular act goes to show that you mean well for the people of Ekonganaku and Akamkpa in general. Your choice of carrying out a need assessment also proves that you know what you are doing.” He also lauded the elevation of Elder Etefia to a key position in council, pledging the community’s support for the administration.

The visit ended with a symbolic gesture as the community formally handed over Elder Etefia to the Chairman, a move that reinforced their trust in his leadership. The royal father also charged the Supervisory Councillor to work harmoniously with the Chairman, urging him to eschew rebellion and prioritise service.

Hon. Akposi also met with the youth wing of the community, assuring them of inclusive leadership and their integral role in the council’s agenda. The festive season was made brighter as the Chairman distributed cash, rice, beans, and other essential food items, spreading cheer across the community.

This visit to Ekonganaku, characterised by humility, inclusivity, and a genuine desire to serve, cements Hon. Akposi’s reputation as a leader committed to grassroots governance and the well-being of his people.
