Abak Road by Ring Road 2 Fuss: Resident absolves Hensek of blame

A resident of Ikot Okubo axis of Abak road has reacted to attempts to attribute the collapse of a spot along Abak Road to Hensek Integrated Services, saying that the construction giant cannot be faulted for collapse of a road it did not construct.

Reacting to the most recent of such attempts by a state based tabloid, the resident who gave his name as Imaikop Inyang, hinted that he was one of the residents who witnessed the finishing part of the Ring Road 2 construction which ended at the Abak Road side of the road.

Hensek Integrated Services was hired by Akwa Ibom state government under then Governor Udom Emmanuel to take over the construction of Ring Road 2, after the initial contract was revoked from the former handler. The said ring road spans from Aka Road junction to Abak road, which a roundabout which finishes shortly shortly before the collapsed spot.

Speaking with our reporter, Inyang noted that except the reporter had their own motive, it is clear that they had no idea about the situation, while further faulting the fact that the reporter published an information he described as wrong and misleading.

Inyang also hinted that shortly after they (residents) noticed the settlement of water at the said spot, it was discovered that the problem was caused by blocked drains which did not allow the movement of the water to finish into the drains.

He noted that the residents and relevant government agencies responded to the situation, the stagnated water had already caused minor damage to the asphalt, which he said the affected spot unfortunately worsened as vehicles, especially heavy duty ones kept driving through the spot.

“It is funny that anyone would want to blame Hensek for spoils on a road they did not construct. If you check that spot, it is the old asphalt of Abak Road. This road was constructed many years before I was born. The road is old and several portions of it coming from plaza, and even beyond this spot has cracked over the years, creating potholes. So why are they not blaming Hensek for those other parts that cracked?”, he queried.
