The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council, has celebrated renowned broadcast journalist, media strategist, and public relations expert, Alhaji Rasheed Olanrewaju Zubair, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as an outstanding professional whose contributions to journalism and public communication remain exceptional.
In a congratulatory message signed by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Archibong Bassey, the Union praised Zubair’s remarkable career spanning journalism, governance, strategic communication, and public affairs.
The Council noted that the celebrant has distinguished himself over the years through professionalism, resilience, intellectual depth, and dedication to service, earning respect within and beyond the media industry.
According to the statement, Zubair’s rise from his early days in journalism to becoming a Senior Broadcast Journalist with notable media organisations such as Galaxy Television and DAAR Communications Plc reflects his commitment to excellence and truth-driven journalism.
The NUJ highlighted his courageous coverage of major national assignments, including the Presidential Amnesty Programme in Obubra, the Bakassi handover to the Republic of Cameroon, and election coverage across several states of the federation.
The Union further commended his active involvement in the affairs of the NUJ, where he served as Special Assistant, South-South, to a former National President of the Union, Mallam Garba Mohammed, as well as Financial Secretary of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel and Ex-Officio of the NUJ Cross River State Council.
Comrade Archibong Bassey noted that beyond journalism, Zubair has made significant contributions in governance and political communication, serving in strategic media roles at both state and national levels.
The statement particularly acknowledged his service as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, and later as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu.
The Council also described Zubair as a globally exposed media professional whose training at the London School of Journalism and the Thomson Reuters Foundation Institute has further strengthened his expertise in investigative journalism, strategic communication, and public affairs broadcasting.
“Your life and career remain shining examples of dedication, professionalism, and service to humanity. Your achievements continue to inspire younger journalists and communication practitioners across Nigeria,” the statement read.
The NUJ prayed for continued wisdom, sound health, peace, and greater accomplishments for the celebrant as he marks another year.
