The development comes after Ovat Dickson earlier issued a public apology over the controversy surrounding the alleged assault on his wife, expressing regret and taking responsibility for the incident that generated public concern.

The command clarified that the lawmaker was not arrested as widely reported in some quarters but honoured a police invitation alongside his wife in connection with a complaint.

In a statement issued yesterday , the Police Public Relations Officer, Eitokpah Sunday, said both parties reported to the police for questioning and expressed willingness to resolve their differences.

“The attention of the Cross River State Police Command has been drawn to various issues being raised in the public space regarding the alleged arrest of the Honourable Member representing Obubra State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Ovat Dickson Agbor, over a case of alleged domestic violence involving his wife,” the statement read.

The police spokesperson explained that the lawmaker and his wife honoured the command’s invitation and were interrogated over the matter.

“Following an invitation by the Command, Hon. Ovat Dickson Agbor and his wife honoured the invitation and reported to the Police for interrogation and questioning regarding the complaint.

“During the engagement, both parties indicated willingness to resolve their differences, following appeals made by the wife,” he said.

According to the police, the lawmaker was later released to a reliable surety while investigation into the matter continues.

“The Honourable member has since been released to a reliable surety, while the case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Attorney-General for legal advice upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation,” the statement added.

The command assured the public that the matter was being handled professionally and in accordance with established legal procedures as investigation continues.
