A one year internship programme has been officially flagged off by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in all the Nine States of the Niger Delta, in a bold move aimed at empowering the young ones of Niger Delta. It is designed to train individuals between 25 – 45 years old, with an aim of addressing socio-economic challenges and bringing about positive change processes within the region.

Announcing the programme in the state to newsmen, Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke said that through the programme Cross Riverians will be trained in various artisanal ventures ranging from Agriculture to other human endeavours. According to him, this new development is going to impact on their lives in a great way. He encouraged the young people that they too can be leaders and that they need to use internships effectively. “This internship programme represents a vital step toward realizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reformative agenda,” he said, “and it is something we have all been waiting for as Nigerians so that our country may continue growing further.”

Cushioning the Effects of Reform

The NDDC Internship Programmes aims at cushioning the effects of President Tinubu’s ambitious reform agenda. As the nation strives for progress and stability, investment into the next generation becomes crucial. In fact, through provision of internships to 10,000 Cross Riverians, the NDDC will be actively contributing to the country’s growth trajectory.

Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement (HOPE)

The internship program, which is called Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement (HOPE), does not only provide jobs. It offers hands-on and practical experiences that will help develop participants’ skills and expose them to real life situations. By partnering with other organizations, NDDC aims at creating lasting jobs in Niger Delta which are expected to result from strategic working together.

Dynamic Changes for Sustainable Development

A prosperous, stable and peaceful Niger Delta is what the NDDC is looking forward to. “This agency wants to develop holistically by enhancing infrastructure, improving healthcare access, supporting agro-allied industries among others. To this end, the internship program supports NDDC’s full spectrum of development plans”, he added.

Making Lives Better

NDDC interns will acquire practical skills in various fields such as: agriculture, technology and entrepreneurial practices. In doing so, they will work alongside experienced experts who can teach them crucial abilities required for their future professions. The impact of the program goes beyond the lives of individuals—it can change entire communities.

Rallying Call

Duke made a clarion call to all relevant stakeholders to be involved. “As a result of this internship programme by NDDC, all role players including government agencies, private sector partners and community leaders are urged to support it actively. Working together we can make the Niger Delta a better place—a place where young talents prosper; innovation thrives while sustainable development becomes a reality”.

Conclusion

In conclusion, one year internship programmes are like beacons of hope to Cross Riverians put in place by Niger Development Commission (NDC). This shows how committed the commission is towards an unwavering commitment to fostering positive change and empowering the youth. As the programme unfolds, we eagerly anticipate the transformative impact it will have on the lives of thousands of young Nigerians in the Niger Delta region of the country.
