Dep. Gov. Odey leads C’River delegation to 80th UN General Assembly

The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Dr Peter Odey, has led a delegation from the state to the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), currently being held in New York, United States.

The state delegation includes, High Chief Higgins Peters (Natural Leader of the North) and Hon. Oden Ewa, Commissioner for Special Duties and Chairman of the Cross River State Green Economy Commission.

They arrived in New York on Monday for the 2025 Climate Week, which has the theme: “Better together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights” as outlined by Her Excellency Annalena Baerbock, the President of the 80th session of the General Assembly.

The Assembly opened on 9th September. The high-level General Debate started on Monday, 22nd September. The General Assembly will run from September 22nd to 30th.

Cross River State will participate in the different events, where more than 150 leaders will address the United Nations (UN).

Statements are expected to observe a voluntary 15-minute time limit, though many run longer.

With its rich and large rainforest, Cross River lead the way for the green economy, not only in Nigeria but in West Africa. The is expected to benefit from the outcome of the meeting just like Brazil and other nations.

Experts project Cross River to drive the green economy in Nigeria, with a large population of over 200 million people.

Converseer reports that in September, leaders from around the world gather at the United Nations in New York to debate and pass resolutions on the biggest issues facing the planet.
