At least one person has been reportedly injured following a renewed cult clash at the University of Cross River State.

The violent incident has triggered panic, forcing many students to flee the campus for safety.

This latest outbreak of violence comes after unidentified gunmen, alleged to be members of the Aye Axe Men confraternity, invaded the campus on Wednesday.

Sources told Primetime that the renewed violence stems from an alleged battle for supremacy between rival cult groups, which resumed hostilities after several years of calm at the university.

Narrating the ordeal, a student of the university, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that a large group had gathered on campus before tensions escalated.

“We were just in school when we suddenly heard gunshots. Everybody started running. From what I’ve heard, they were fighting over leadership. One of them was shot but managed to escape with his injuries—no fatalities have been reported, but they are members of Aye Axe confraternity “.the student said.

A video obtained by our correspondent shows the group exchanging gunfire and fleeing the scene.

When contacted for a response, the university spokesman, Onen Onen, declined to disclose details.

“I don’t like answering questions like this from people I can’t identify. I know you’ve introduced yourself, but I don’t know you personally. Anybody can impersonate. I’m just being cautious based on past experiences,” he stated.
