The wife of the Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Mrs. Glory Felix Akposi, has reiterated the importance of spreading the joy of Christmas to all, particularly those facing economic and social vulnerabilities. She made this assertion during the distribution of Christmas packages to women across the local government, an initiative aimed at alleviating the burdens of the season for grassroots beneficiaries.

Addressing the women during the event, Mrs. Akposi emphasised the essence of accessibility and inclusivity in governance. She noted that bringing the Christmas packages to the local communities underscores the administrationโ€™s commitment to ensuring that resources are equitably distributed. โ€œThe idea of bringing it down to the people is to ensure that the people can get what is due to them with ease,โ€ she said. โ€œYou cannot expect a woman battling several economic challenges to break even and pay her way to Calabar to access her entitlement. This is our local government, and what is due to us must be shared within our jurisdiction.โ€

She further charged the women to ensure the packages reached the most vulnerable members of society, such as the elderly, persons living with disabilities, and female-headed households. “I do not need to emphasise how dear this administration holds these categories of people at heart. I can assure you that the chairman, my husband, is unwavering in his resolve to ensure that the dividends of democracy trickle down to the grassroots,” she added with conviction.

In her response, the Chapter Women Leader, Hon. Philipper Ntuyang, expressed profound gratitude to the Chairman and his wife for their proactive leadership and benevolence. She assured the gathering of the womenโ€™s commitment to transparency in the distribution process, saying, โ€œYou will not hear any funny stories. We will work collectively to ensure that all the people you mentioned, and more, benefit from this magnanimity. Together, we shall make Akamkpa better.โ€

The distribution event was characterised by a festive atmosphere as the women received items such as rice, beans, tomatoes, assorted seasoning ingredients, spices, salt, and vegetable oil. These provisions were designed to ease the economic strain often associated with the Christmas season while promoting communal cheer.

Mrs. Akposiโ€™s initiative resonates with the administrationโ€™s broader vision of empowering women and enhancing grassroots engagement. By prioritising accessibility and inclusivity, the programme aligns with the councilโ€™s commitment to fostering a more equitable distribution of resources and opportunities.

The initiative was lauded by community leaders and stakeholders who described it as a testament to the administrationโ€™s people-centric approach. โ€œThis effort showcases the depth of compassion and commitment of the Akamkpa leadership,โ€ one attendee remarked.

As the women returned to their various communities, the event stood as a reminder of the shared responsibility to uplift the underprivileged and maintain the communal spirit that defines the Christmas season. Mrs. Akposiโ€™s call for grassroots inclusivity resonated as a powerful endorsement of governance that places the people at the heart of its agenda.
