In a renewed show of commitment to youth and sports development, the Executive Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Area, Hon. (Ophot) Felix Akposi, KSJI, on Tuesday, 7th October 2025 met with the management and players of Akamkpa United Football Club in a strategic engagement session held at the Council Hall.

Addressing the team, Hon. Akposi lauded both management and players for their steadfastness, discipline, and consistency since the club’s reorganisation. He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering passion for sports as a catalyst for youth empowerment, revealing that substantial resources have already been channelled towards repositioning Akamkpa United FC for higher competitiveness within and outside the state.

“We are determined to raise a team that represents the pride and spirit of Akamkpa. Our dream is to see Akamkpa United play in the National League and become a nursery for talents who can make Nigeria proud,” Akposi declared.

He further announced that Lafarge Company has pledged to support the club with two complete sets of jerseys and boots, adding that such partnerships would enhance the club’s professional outlook and competitive edge. To reinforce his commitment, the Council Boss approved ₦1.5 million as stipends for the club’s management and players — a gesture reflecting his belief in sports as a powerful tool for social and economic inclusion.

Reacting to the Chairman’s gesture, Coach Richard Itanssinna, head of the club’s management committee, described the intervention as “a bold and visionary step that rekindles hope in grassroots football.” He praised Hon. Akposi’s leadership for demonstrating genuine interest in youth development, noting that the support would serve as great motivation to rebuild the team for future glory.

Similarly, Samuel Eso, speaking on behalf of the players, expressed deep gratitude to the Council Chairman for his magnanimity and foresight. “We are grateful to you for believing in us. This support has re-energised our spirit to work harder, stay disciplined, and give our best in training and upcoming matches,” Eso stated.

The meeting ended with a collective prayer by the players and management, seeking divine wisdom and grace for the Executive Chairman as he continues to drive the transformation agenda of Akamkpa Local Government through impactful and people-centred initiatives.
