A good governance advocacy organisation has called on Nigerians to rally behind the newly appointed Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), saying his leadership would strengthen the country’s security architecture if citizens and government at all levels play their part.
Director-General of Good Governance Advocacy International, Leonard Anyogo, made the call in a statement on Thursday, commending President Bola Tinubu for what he described as “an appointment that resonates with the Nigerian populace.”
He said Gen. Musa had earned nationwide respect, credibility and integrity from his years of service, adding that his track record as a former Chief of Defence Staff had demonstrated his capacity to lead the nation’s defence sector effectively.
Anyogo stressed that improving national security required collective responsibility, urging citizens, communities, and authorities at the local, state and federal levels to embrace transparency, fairness and justice in governance.
“Security is everybody’s business. Good governance makes it easier for the military to protect us because it guarantees equity and fairness,” he said.
He noted that his organisation was ready to partner with the Ministry of Defence and other stakeholders to drive national reorientation campaigns, emphasising that sustainable security is built on good governance.
While congratulating the minister, he said much was expected of him, stating that “he has consistently shown competence and dedication in previous roles.”
The DG also appealed to international organisations and foreign partners to support Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen its security system, saying a stable Nigeria remains crucial to Africa’s progress.
Anyogo urged Nigerians to play their part in safeguarding the country, saying national security begins with citizen participation and community vigilance.
