In a significant political move, Rt. Hon. Stephen O. Ibe, a notable politician from Biase Local Government Area (LGA) of Cross River State, has resigned from the Labour Party. In a letter dated September 27, 2024, addressed to the Labour Party Chairman of Abanyong Ward, Ibe formally announced his departure from the party, citing a misalignment of his political beliefs and the party’s principles.
Ibe, in his resignation letter, highlighted his dissatisfaction with the Labour Party’s policies, which he believes no longer align with his aspirations for the community and the country. He noted that despite his commitment, resources, and time invested in the party, it had yet to yield any tangible results. “After careful consideration, I have decided that my political beliefs and aspirations are no longer in tandem with the principles and policies of the Labour Party,” he said.
In a show of appreciation, Ibe expressed gratitude to the party leadership at all levels for the opportunity to serve. He remarked that although he was proud of the achievements they made together, it was time to move on. He also requested that his name be removed from the Labour Party’s records and correspondence.
Rt. Hon. Ibe’s defection marks a strategic shift as he announced his decision to join the All Progressive Peoples Congress (APC), a party he believes better aligns with his vision and values. He extended his best wishes to the Labour Party, stating his hope for future collaboration in advancing the nation’s growth and development.
