The Partners for Peace in the Niger Delta (P4P) in Cross River State has condemned the brutal assault on a minibus driver by individuals allegedly working under the Calabar Municipal Council, calling for justice and accountability.

In a statement, the State Coordinator, Mr. Ukorebi Esien, denounced the attack as archaic and damaging to Cross River’s reputation as a peaceful, tourism-friendly destination.

“This kind of barbaric and ancient act has no place in our society. It tarnishes Cross River’s image and discourages visitors from coming to our state,” Esien stated.

P4P, a leading peacebuilding network, described the incident as not only regrettable but entirely unacceptable, stressing that violent enforcement methods should have no role in governance.

However, the group commended the Mayor of Calabar, Apostle (Rt. Hon.) James Anam, for his swift response in dissolving all revenue task forces within the municipality.

“We appreciate the proactive response of Apostle Anam in immediately dissolving the task force. This step will create room for proper investigations and ensure peace prevails,” Esien added.

P4P urged authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice to prevent future occurrences of such violent practices. While investigations are ongoing, officials have yet to release a full report on the incident.
