The President General,Cross River State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio – cultural organization of the Igbos in the country and business mogul, Hon Chief Chukwuemeka Egwuonwu has congratulated Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu on his award of an honorary doctorate degree from the Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola and The Sun Governor of the Year award.
Egwuonwu in a statement made available to The Guardian in Calabar described the honour done by Senator Otu as heartwarming and a recognition of his sundry contributions to democratic development and nation-building spanning three decades.
The Governor said the award is more symbolic by the fact that it is being conferred on Otu barely over two years in office which bears eloquent testimony to the recognition of his stellar performance in public service as governor and a former Senator and member of the House of Representjatives.
Egwuonwu also noted that the Doctor of Humanities (Honoris Causa), a distinction reserved for individuals whose influence transcends professional boundaries to positively shape social development and national cohesion is in recognition of his outstanding contributions and humanitarian services is visible for all to see as the governor has distinguished himself in those areas in his public service trajectory.
Describing the governor as a pride to all Cross River sons and daughters all over the world, the Ohanaeze chieftain said the honour, which is coming a week after Governor Otu baged The Sun Governor of the Year award is a testament to his contributions to good governance and nation building which has set a standard of excellence, and honor which reflects the respect he has earned.
Egwuonwu who is also the Senior Special Adviser to Anambra State Governor on Community Liaison expressed optimism that the latest honour would spur the governor to carry out more selfless service to Cross River, Nigeria, the global community and humanity in general in years to come.
“This well-deserved honour serves as a strong reminder of the need to remain focused, grounded, and steadfast in the pursuit of impactful and sustainable service.
He expressed gratitude to the authorities of Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola for finding Governor Otu worthy of the honour which he said is well deserved and a gesture of his recognition as an advocate of national unity and security.
