Calabar is set to host a major healthcare intervention next week as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and a coalition of partner organizations roll out a week-long, comprehensive free medical outreach for residents of Cross River State.
The programme, known as the “Calabar Free Medical Outreach,” will run from Monday, November 24 to Friday, November 28, 2025, with services offered daily from 9 AM to 5 PM at the Calabar Women and Children Hospital on Murtala Mohammed Highway.
Organizers describe the outreach as a significant opportunity for residents to access a broad range of healthcare services at no cost. According to the planning team, the exercise will cover general and specialized surgeries, full medical consultations with free medications, ophthalmology and dental care, laboratory investigations, obstetrics and gynaecology services, health promotion and education and other key interventions.
They noted that the initiative is part of the activities marking NDDC’s anniversary celebration, themed “25 Years of Making a Difference.” The collaboration brings together several development and health partners, including RHI, ECEWS and CSDON, working in synergy with the Cross River State health sector.
“This outreach is designed to give people access to quality medical attention without the barrier of cost,” an official involved in the planning said. “We want residents to know that help is available and that they should take full advantage of the services throughout the five days.”
The organizers added that the outreach is open not only to residents of Calabar but also to people from surrounding communities who may need specialized or routine medical care.
With expectations already building, many see the initiative as a timely intervention and a reinforcement of the commitment by NDDC and its partners to improve access to healthcare across the region. Residents are advised to arrive early and make use of the free services during the scheduled days.
