In a significant move to bolster waste management in Cross River State, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has bestowed a fleet of dumpsters to the state authorities. This generous act, recorded on June 10, 2024, at the State House, marks a milestone in the state’s environmental management efforts.

The striking blue dumpsters, emblazoned with “Donated by NDDC,” arrived atop a sizable flatbed truck, symbolizing NDDC’s commitment to fostering environmental sustainability and enhancing public health across the Niger Delta. These dumpsters are poised to substantially improve the state’s waste disposal efficiency.

Amidst the construction of new public facilities, the arrival of these dumpsters heralds a new era in infrastructure and service enhancement. Otuekong Orok Otu, the State Representative representing Cross River on the NDDC board, remarked, “This initiative is a testament to NDDC’s resolve to mitigate environmental challenges prevalent in urban areas, including Calabar.”

“The deployment of these dumpsters is expected to refine waste collection operations and curtail the prevalent haphazard waste disposal, thus cultivating a more pristine and enduring urban environment,” stated Otuekong Duke.

The state’s administration has warmly welcomed the contribution, recognizing its significance in preserving the state’s cleanliness and fostering a salubrious milieu for its denizens. This gesture is in sync with the ongoing endeavors to revamp waste management frameworks and address the escalating issue of urban refuse.

According to reports, the NDDC’s strategic intervention is emblematic of a focused approach to regional upliftment, targeting tangible remedies for immediate communal challenges. With the operationalization of these dumpsters, they are anticipated to be instrumental in elevating sanitation standards and ecological conditions within Cross River State.
