In a landmark initiative, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), under the esteemed leadership of the State Representative for Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke, has launched a comprehensive Free Medical Mission. This ambitious programme is set to deliver a wide range of medical services to the doorsteps of all Cross Riverians, from the lush hills of Obanliku to the coastal stretches of Bakassi.

The mission, which officially commenced on May 5th, 2024, in Delta State, is part of the NDDC’s ongoing commitment to improving the healthcare landscape across its nine-member states. The Cross River leg of the mission is scheduled from June 16th to June 22nd, 2024, at the General Hospital Akamkpa, Akampa LGA.

Contrary to earlier reports, the outreach is not confined to the southern senatorial district or limited to three LGAs. Instead, it is a state-wide initiative that spans across all 18 LGAs, ensuring that no one is left behind in this health revolution. The NDDC’s mantra, Making a Difference, truly comes to life as they bring critical medical services to the people.

The services offered during this mission are extensive and include free consultations, eye checks, prescription drugs, eye glasses, surgeries, and counseling. These services are not just free but are also of the highest quality, provided by dedicated medical professionals who are part of the NDDC’s medical team touring the member states.

Addressing newsmen, Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke emphasizes that this mission is a testament to the NDDC’s dedication to the welfare of the Niger Delta people. “Health is a right, not a privilege,” he asserts, “and we are here to ensure that every Cross Riverian has access to the healthcare they deserve.”

“The NDDC’s Free Medical Mission is a beacon of hope, especially for those in remote and underserved areas. It is a move that not only addresses immediate health concerns but also demonstrates a sustainable model for future healthcare initiatives”.

Community leaders and healthcare advocates across Cross River State have lauded the NDDC’s efforts. They encourage everyone to participate and benefit from the range of services provided. When our reporter spoke with a local leader in anticipation of the medical mission, he said, “This is an opportunity like no other, and it’s crucial that we all take advantage of it for the betterment of our health and community.”

As the mission progresses, stories of lives being changed for the better are already emerging from other states. From life-saving surgeries to the simple joy of a child seeing clearly for the first time with new glasses, the impact is profound and far-reaching, the State Rep remarks..

The NDDC invites all Cross Riverians to be part of this transformative journey. With a focus on inclusivity and excellence, the Free Medical Mission is set to leave a lasting legacy in the health sector of Cross River State and beyond.

Duke added that the NDDC’s Free Medical Mission is more than just a healthcare programme; it’s a movement towards a healthier, stronger community. As Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke puts it, “We are not just treating illnesses; we are nurturing hope and building a foundation for a healthier future for all our people.”

For more information on the Free Medical Mission and to stay updated on the schedule, please refer to the official NDDC communications and announcements. Let’s come together to make the most of this incredible initiative and move towards a healthier tomorrow, he concluded.
