The Cross River State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi has decried the low level of compliance to the Statewide Sanitation Order in Abi and Yakurr Local Government Areas.

Osogi who made the observation during the supervision of the Statewide Environmental Sanitation exercise in the Central Senatorial District as part of deliberate efforts to ensure the implementation of the order across the 18 Local Government Areas, described the nonchalant attitude of motorists as unacceptable.

While also frowning at the low level of participants by residents of the two area councils headquarters, Osogi expressed disappointment at their level of compliance, saying, “I was thinking what we have been preaching has been replicated at the Urban Areas, but sadly it is not so. I must say that I’m disappointed and I really want to see a change in attitude by next month”.

The visibly angry Commissioner disclosed plans to sustain supervision of the exercise across the State to ensure that maximum compliance is achieved.

In the same vein, the Executive Secretary, Ugep Development Authority, Hon. Osong Etowa has extended his appreciation to Governor Bassey Otu for spearheading the sanitation initiative which has berthed the serene and cleaner Environment in the Area.

He pointed out that, the Commissioner for Environment has done enough in sensitizing the populace on the need to join force in restoring the lost glory of the State as cleanest State in the country and promised to support any course that will aid maximum compliance to the monthly Sanitation Order.

While speaking to news men, some of the populace appreciated the Government in its efforts to achieve a more sustainable Environment through the Environmental sanitation strides.

Vehicles of defaulters were impounded and motorists apprehended and arraigned before the mobile courts for prosecution.

Significantly, the Commissioner stormed Markets, major streets and abateours as well as motor parks to supervise and ensure compliance to the monthly sanitation exercise
