The denial comes on the heels of a fake circular purporting to have announce the resumption of academic activities at the University.

Confirming the development, the University Registrar Victor Ene in a statement issued on Monday titled “Circular on resumption of duty a disclaimer”, described the circular as “fake in all its ramifications” and the handiwork of mischief makers.

According to the registrar, the university operates within an established administrative framework, and all official directives are duly approved and communicated through legitimate channels.

It reads “The attention of the Management of the University of Cross River State has been drawn to a fake circular currently in circulation, purportedly issued and signed by the Registrar, directing staff to resume work with effect from 15th March 2025.

“The University Management wishes to categorically state that the said circular is fake in all its ramifications and is the handiwork of mischief makers whose intent is to mislead the University community and create unnecessary confusion.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the University operates within an established administrative framework, and all official directives are duly approved and communicated through legitimate channels. Staff, students, and the general public are therefore enjoined to discountenance the said Circular and rely only on information issued through the appropriate authorities of the University.

“The University strongly warns those responsible for this misleading publication to desist forth with,as such acts constitute gross misconduct with serious consequences. The institution will not hesitate to invoke the full weight of the law against any individual or group found engaging in the unauthorized dissemination of false information.

“For darity, all official directives regarding resumption, academic calendar, and related matters shall be communicated at the appropriate time through the Office of the Registrar or other designated channels. Please be guided accordingly.”

Our correspondent gathered that the university lecturers’ union has been on strike for several weeks, citing unresolved issues with the state government. The strike has affected thousands of students, who are anxiously waiting for a resolution to the impasse.

The state government is yet to comment on the strike, but sources say that negotiations are ongoing to resolve the crisis.

The university management has assured students that it is working to resolve the issue and restore normalcy to the campus.
