For proper service delivery, effectiveness and efficiency, the Cross River State Office recently organized a two-day working session on Information and Communication Technology for the State Project staff and local government desk officers from the ten local government areas where the LIFE-ND Project is domiciled. The training which was anchored by the State Administrative and Logistics Officer took place at the American Corner of the Women Development Centre, Calabar, Cross River State.

Declaring the workshop open, the State Project Coordinator, Mr Innocent Ogbin charged the staff and the LGDOs to take the training seriously as the demands from their offices harp on ICT compliance.

He further stressed that, the world has evolved and, that various innovations and assistance to helping business growth are linked to ICT.

“ICT and technology work hand in hand and cannot be treated exclusively as each compliments the other”.

“As you know, we are not lagging behind in ICT as we have our Agritech incubatees who are into Agricultural ICT. The benefits are enormous, from marketing, innovations, product information, record keeping, storage, climate change etc”.

“If we are encouraging our farmers to go into it, we should not be left out. We also need to follow the trend and improve our capacity as staff of the Project”.

Speaking earlier, Mrs. Tem Alobo, the State Administrative and Logistics Officer stated that as a project, there is a policy direction it must follow even in reporting . “As things evolve, we also adjust our operations to fit in, hence, trainings such as this does not only sharpen us but keep us in shape and mentally alert. Since, the State staff are not stand alone but collaborates and rely on data from the local government desk officers, we thought it wise to include them in the training”.

Henry Ekpor and Regina Abuashua, the Local Government Desk Officers for Obubra and Ogoja LGA respectively expressed delight in the impact of the training, stating that exposing them to periodic training and capacity building such as the ICT is not only helping them execute their responsibilities more effectively and efficiently but, also expand their horizon in decision making in the evolving AI society.
