The Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Hon. (Ophot) Felix Akposi KSJI, has reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership and compassionate governance with the distribution of 1,200 bags of rice to stakeholders across the ten council wards of Akamkpa Local Government Area.
The largesse, which took place in the spirit of the season, cut across a broad spectrum of beneficiaries including the two members of the Cross River State House of Assembly representing Akamkpa, the two serving commissioners from the area, state appointees, local government appointees, staff of Akamkpa Local Government Council, traditional rulers, heads of security institutions based in Akamkpa, the Elders Forum, party stalwarts, the Christian Association of Nigeria, non indigenes resident in the council area, persons with disabilities and other critical stakeholders.
Speaking at the distribution exercise, Hon. Akposi described the initiative as a deliberate effort to ensure that the joy of Christmas is shared by all, irrespective of status, political leaning or background. He noted that governance must be felt in homes and hearts, especially at a time when many families are grappling with economic pressures.
According to him, the act of giving at Christmas is rooted in the very essence of the season, recalling that God Himself expressed love for humanity through the gift of His Son, offering a sacrificial and salvific love that continues to inspire compassion and selflessness among believers.
Beneficiaries commended the Chairman for what they described as an unprecedented gesture of unity and thoughtfulness, stating that the distribution reflected the values of equity, empathy and community that Akamkpa stands for.
The event further strengthened social cohesion across the local government, as leaders from political, traditional, religious and civil society backgrounds converged in a rare show of collective goodwill.
Message from the Chairman to the People of Akamkpa
The Joy of Being, Living for Each Other
“My dear people of Akamkpa and all residents in our land, as we celebrate this sacred season, I am reminded that true joy is not found in what we keep but in what we give. Christmas teaches us that love is practical, that sacrifice is powerful and that living for one another is the highest expression of humanity.
As God extended His love to us through the gift of His Son, may we also extend kindness to our neighbours, compassion to the vulnerable and hope to the weary. Let our homes be filled with peace, our communities with unity and our hearts with gratitude.
Together, we will continue to build an Akamkpa where no one is left behind. This is the joy of being, encapsulated in our living for each other.
Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to you all.”
