In a heartwarming show of appreciation and inclusiveness, the wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Her Excellency, Bishop Dr. Eyoanwan Bassey Edet Otu, shared the joy of her husband’s 66th birthday with teachers across Akamkpa Local Government Area.
The event, which took place at Oban Primary School on Wednesday 22nd October, 2025 for Akamkpa II and on the 23rd of October, 2025 at the Local Government Council Hall for Akamkpa I, brought together over 900 teachers who received the Governor’s birthday gifts. The celebration reflected the First Lady’s deep commitment to promoting education and honoring the vital role of teachers in shaping society.
Delivering the First Lady’s message on her behalf, Hon. (Mrs) Glory Felix Akposi, wife of the Executive Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, spoke with warmth and sincerity. She described the moment as exceptional, noting that it was rare to see teachers being so thoughtfully recognized and celebrated.
“We are here today to witness what has not happened for a long while, or might not have happened at all where teachers are recognized and called to meet in this kind of forum,” Lady Akposi said. “This goes to show the value you give to society, especially at the foundational stage of learning. This isn’t going to be a one-off event; we should expect more. Don’t feel let down, neither should you feel underestimated, because you play a vital role in shaping the minds of our future leaders.”
Her words drew nods and applause from the crowd of educators who expressed visible joy at the thoughtful gesture.
Representatives of the teachers, including Mr. Leo Ajom of Army Primary School Akamkpa, Mrs. Glory Enyi of Ayeabam, Mr. Bassey Offiong of Government Primary School Calaro Camp, and Mr. Fidelis Agbor of Government Primary School Akor, spoke with gratitude and admiration for the First Lady and the Governor. They commended the first family for their kindness and commitment to improving education in the state.
The teachers also thanked the Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government, Hon. (Ophot) Felix Akposi KSJI, and his wife for transparently ensuring that the gifts reached every teacher without bias or favouritism.
The event ended on a high note with smiles, prayers, and songs of appreciation echoing across both venues. For many, it was more than a celebration, it was a gesture of respect, encouragement, and renewed hope for the teaching profession.
As the teachers dispersed with their gifts and gratitude, the message from the First Lady remained clear: education is the foundation of a better Cross River, and those who nurture it deserve to be seen, valued, and celebrated.
