The remains of late Dr. Sam Edet Enang, elder brother to the Cross River State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi, have been laid to rest in his hometown, Anong, Abi Local Government Area, a few months after his passing at the age of 61.
The funeral service, conducted by the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, was officiated by Rt. Rev. Dr. John Utum, who in his sermon titled “The Sojourner,” described life on earth as a journey. He urged Christians to live exemplary lives worthy of emulation, reminding the congregation that every human is a sojourner on earth and should therefore devote their time to serving God faithfully.
In his tribute, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi, described his late elder brother as a philanthropist who lived gracefully and courageously. He said though Dr. Enang is no longer physically present, the memories they shared from childhood to adulthood will remain evergreen. He prayed God to fill the vacuum left by his passing, describing the deceased as his confidant and pillar of strength who will be greatly missed.
Delivering the Governor’s tribute on behalf of the Cross River State Government, the Commissioner for Education, Sen. Stephen Odey, conveyed Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s condolences to the bereaved family. The Governor described Dr. Enang’s passing as a great loss, praying that his legacies live on and that the family finds comfort in cherished memories.
The College of Commissioners, in a tribute presented by its Secretary and Commissioner for Information, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang, described the death of Dr. Enang as a painful loss, noting that his contributions to family and societal development remain indelible.
Also speaking, the Rivers State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Sydney Tambari, expressed his sympathy to Hon. Osogi, praying for God to grant him the fortitude to bear the loss.
Earlier, in a biography presented by his son, Mr. Cletus Ubi Edet, the late Dr. Enang was described as a man of integrity, faith, compassion, and resilience. The biography highlighted his professional career as a Chiropractic Doctor in Texas, USA, where he founded and managed DBM Chiropractic Clinic, Houston, and was renowned for his excellence in holistic patient care.
He passed on April 25, 2025, at his residence.
The burial ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including traditional rulers, commissioners, permanent Secretaries, Members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), business leaders, Management and staff of Cross River State Ministry of Environment, family and friends etc was preceded by a wake keeping ceremony, which featured sermon, prayers, cultural displays and traditional dances.
Indeed, the passing of Dr. Sam Edet Enang has left a deep void, not only in his immediate family but also in the larger society he served.
