Hon. Effiong Edem, Special Assistant on Culture and Heritage, has congratulated Hon. Usoro Offiong Akpabio on her inauguration as the first Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC).
The SSDC, established in March 2025 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is designed as a federal vehicle to drive growth and transformation in the South-South. Hon. Edem expressed confidence that the new leadership will focus on job creation, skills training, infrastructure renewal, and investment attraction to benefit Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo and Delta States.
Ms Akpabio’s appointment is both a milestone for the South-South and a strong signal of the increasing role of women in national leadership. We look forward to working with the Commission to promote cultural heritage, empower our youth, and pursue sustainable development,” Hon. Edem said.
He described the inauguration as a turning point for the Niger Delta and for Nigeria, marking the start of fresh opportunities and renewed prosperity.
