In a condolence message dated December 30, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the NUJ, Gombe State Council, the Cross River NUJ said it received the news of the tragic incident with “profound shock and deep sorrow.

It described the loss as a devastating blow to the journalism profession nationwide.

The union noted that the deceased journalists, who were reportedly involved in the accident while returning from a social engagement, were dedicated media professionals who served the public with courage, integrity and professionalism.

According to the statement on Tuesday by the Chairman of the Cross River State Council, Archibong Bassey, noted that the untimely death of the journalists has created an irreplaceable void, not only for the Gombe State NUJ and the families of the victims, but also for the entire journalism community across the country.

“On behalf of the Executive and members of the NUJ, Cross River State Council, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Gombe State Council of the NUJ, the management and staff of the Nigerian Television Authority, Gombe, as well as the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased,” the statement read.

The council said it stood in full solidarity with the Gombe media family at what it described as a very difficult moment, adding that it shared in their pain and grief.

The Cross River NUJ also said that the tragic incident once again highlighted the dangers journalists face in the course of their duties, while calling for urgent improvements in road safety measures to prevent avoidable loss of lives.

“We pray that Almighty God grants eternal rest to the souls of our departed colleagues and gives their families, loved ones and the entire Gombe State media family the fortitude to bear this painful loss,” the statement added.
