The Member representing Abi State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly ,Davies Etta, has called on communities in the state to shun violence and embrace peaceful coexistence for the sake of development.
Etta made the call in a statement issued on Sunday to mark the 2025 International Day of Peace, stressing that peace remained the foundation for growth in education, commerce, agriculture, and every other sector.
He said the message of peace was particularly important for Abi Local Government Area, which has witnessed protracted communal crises in places such as Ebom and Ebijakara, Ediba and Usumutong, Adadama, and Ekureku. According to him, these conflicts have left painful scars, destroyed livelihoods, and slowed development.
“No community truly wins in war, everyone loses,” the legislator noted, adding that reconciliation, tolerance, and dialogue were the only sustainable pathways to lasting peace.
Etta reaffirmed his commitment to working with government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and civil society organizations to tackle the root causes of conflicts in Abi. He assured constituents that he would continue to support policies in the Assembly aimed at promoting peace and unity across the state.
“Let this International Day of Peace be a turning point. Let us lay down the weapons of violence and pick up the tools of dialogue, tolerance, and cooperation. Let us see each other not as rivals, but as brothers and sisters bound by a common destiny,” he said.
He urged all Abi communities to embrace reconciliation and pledged his continuous advocacy for interventions that would strengthen peace and development in Cross River State and Nigeria at large.
