The All Progressives Congress in Cross River State on Tuesday elected a former member of the House of Representatives, Chris Sunny Etta, as its new state chairman.
Etta, who represented Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, emerged at the party’s state congress held in Calabar.
His emergence followed the conduct of ward and local government congresses across the state as part of the party’s 2026 nationwide congresses to reposition its structures.
Announcing the outcome, party officials said the newly elected State Executive Committee would be sworn in in line with the directive of the APC national leadership that all duly elected ward, local government and state executives be inaugurated without delay, in accordance with the party’s constitution.
Etta’s election is seen as a significant development within the party’s fold in Cross River, given his experience as a former federal lawmaker and longstanding member of the APC.
Party stakeholders expressed optimism that the new chairman would strengthen internal cohesion and reposition the APC ahead of future political engagements in the state.
Efforts to reach Etta for comments were ongoing as of the time of filing this report
