A High Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State, yesterday granted an order for the relocation of a vehicle seized by the Ikom Divisional Police to the Cross River state judiciary headquarters in Calabar.
The presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Theresa Agom of High Court 13, made the order in suit No: HC/146F/2025 and adjourned the matter to March 31, 2026, for judgment.
The applicant, youth senator representing Manyu Division in South West Cameroon, Manghe Romeo Etta, is seeking N200m damages for unlawful detention and breach of his fundamental rights.
The case is between Manghe Romeo Etta, (applicant) and Assistant Inspector General of Police, Nigeria Police Force, Zone 6 headquarters Calabar, and five others as respondents.
Counsel to the applicant, Armstrong T. Achu Esq., had prayed the Court to mandate the respondents to bring the applicant’s vehicle, a BMW-X1 Model Vehicle with registration number MRA 905 AL, and Chasis number WBAVLIC57CVR78137, to the court premises for preservation and protection.
Granting the motion, Justice Agom ordered the respondents to produce original copies of the vehicle documents, with the car keys, to be handed over to court authority for safe keeping pending the determination of the matter in court.
“We bought our vehicle genuinely. Our arrest and detention was unlawful. We have our papers.
“They never presented one single evidence to prove that vehicle was stolen,” Achu emphasized in a brief interview.
“The respondents should bring the vehicle to Calabar as ordered, and we expect them to produce the original documents and car keys,” Achu added, warning that “We don’t want a situation where there will be a rift between Nigeria and Cameroon government.”
