In a major stride toward environmental sustainability, the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star has commissioned a 245-kilowatt (KW) solar power project to provide clean, renewable energy for its key facilities. The upgrade signals the organization’s continued commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and embracing energy-efficient technologies.

The project, which includes the installation of solar panels at the Brotherhood’s World Headquarters, is expected to significantly cut down the group’s reliance on conventional power sources, lower electricity expenses, and support its broader environmental goals.

With a total output capacity of 245KW and a 25-year guarantee, the system is projected to supply a significant portion of the organization’s electricity needs especially during peak sunlight hours. The solar power system was designed and installed in collaboration with Tanfon, a leading provider of renewable energy solutions.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held on Saturday at 34 Ambo the World Headquarters of the Brotherhood Fred Obu, who represented the spiritual leader, Olumba Olumba Obu, emphasized the importance of transitioning to greener alternatives.

He stated that the solar project reflects the religious body’s firm commitment to responsible energy use and environmental stewardship.

“We are proud to lead by example and contribute to a more sustainable future. We thank the Holy Father for making this possible,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Project Director of BCS Green Energy, Princess Ibum Olumba Obu, noted that beyond the immediate environmental advantages, the switch to solar is expected to deliver long-term financial savings, reduce the risk of fluctuating energy prices, and inspire similar projects across the community.

She described the project as a move away from the shadows of generator use into the brilliance of solar energy what she referred to as entering the “rhythm of divine alignment.”

“Our Most Holy Father does not just speak words He births a new world. He does not merely proclaim light He manifests it in full power. Today, His words are being fulfilled before our very eyes. The 245KW solar project is more than infrastructure; it is a sacred signpost, a radiant testament to the vision of the Holy Father unfolding in fullness,” she said.

Also lending his voice, Project Manager Chukuyenum Uzoelum disclosed that the solar installation would lead to significant savings on diesel procurement, which currently stands at N21 million monthly, with an annual cost of approximately N252 million.

“The primary aim of this project is to harness clean, renewable energy from the sun—reducing reliance on fossil fuels, minimizing generator noise and emissions, and contributing to our sustainability goals,” he explained.

“Before this project, the cost of powering Ambo with diesel was unsustainable. With the new solar power system, we expect to cut that cost by at least 70 percent. This installation is intended to achieve long-term environmental, financial, and energy benefits.”

Representing the state government, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, Prof. Thomas Ogboaka, commended the religious group for the remarkable achievement. He praised the Holy Father’s vision, noting that the Brotherhood had already surpassed the government in implementing key energy projects.

According to findings, the current phase of the solar project includes the following installations: Holy Father’s Palace (50KW), Green Building/Vestry (30KW), Ambo Great Hall (40KW), StarCross TV and Onugen (30KW), No. 39 Ambo (65KW), and Sparkling FM (30KW).

The event also featured the unveiling of Bethel Bites, a new cafeteria that serves a wide range of plant-based meals and snacks.
