Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akamkpa Local Government Area have expressed gratitude to God, the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, and the party for the emergence of Ophot Sir Felix Akposi KSJI as the flag bearer of the APC ahead of the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for November 2, 2024.

Speaking on behalf of the leaders, Ntufam Achort Okon and Rt. Hon. George Oben Etchi described the process that led to Akposi’s emergence as divine and gracious. “The emergence of Ophot Akposi as the candidate of our great party was not through factional interests, which have characterized the politics of APC Akamkpa in the past,” Ntufam Okon said. “We thank God for this unifying moment and appreciate the Governor for his wisdom and leadership in guiding this decision.”

Rt. Hon. George Oben Etchi echoed similar sentiments, noting that Akposi’s candidacy represents a new chapter for unity in Akamkpa. “The party has made a choice that reflects peace, stability, and progress. We are grateful to Governor Otu for his support and commitment to Akamkpa,” he added.

In his remarks, another leader, Owuna, described the emergence of Akposi as a divine intervention to unify Akamkpa. “We might have insulted each other in the course of our attempts to produce a chairman. Factions were created, and they thrived. But given the situation, we cannot deny the truism that Akposi is here to unite all of us,” he said. “Hence, I am appealing to all of us to set aside our differences and align with the chairman for the betterment of Akamkpa LGA.”

The APC Chairmanship Candidate, Ophot Sir Felix Akposi, who was honoured by the overwhelming support, described the occasion as historic and timely. He expressed his gratitude to God, the Governor, fellow aspirants, and all stakeholders for their courageous decision-making. “I thank God for this opportunity, and I appreciate the Governor, my fellow aspirants, and all party members for their brave hearts and commitment to a common cause,” Akposi stated.

Akposi pledged to run an inclusive leadership and open-door administration if elected as chairman on November 2, 2024. “My administration will welcome everyone, and I will work with all stakeholders to ensure that no one is left behind. Together, we will drive progress and development in Akamkpa,” he promised.

The chairmanship candidate further charged elders and leaders to always prioritize credibility and integrity in political representation. “We must look inward and project candidates who can deliver effective and efficient governance, moving beyond the sentiments that often characterize our politics,” he said.

As the local government elections draw closer, APC leaders in Akamkpa remain optimistic that Akposi’s candidacy will mark the beginning of a new era of unity, growth, and development for the local government area.

The meeting was followed by the affirmation of the chairmanship candidate of the APC, Ophot Sir Felix Akposi KSJI as witnessed by the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), elders, party chieftains, stalwarts and party faithfuls, purchase of nomination forms for the chairman and the ten ward’s councillors which were also submitted as stipulated.
