World Teachers’ Day
The Executive Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Hon. (Ophot) Felix Akposi KSJI, as part of this year’s World Teachers’ Day has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained investment in education, describing it as the “next major axis” of development in the local government area.
Speaking in a message to mark this year’s World Teachers’ Day, the council boss lauded teachers for their tireless service to humanity, describing them as “the true nation builders and moulders of minds whose influence extends beyond generations.”
According to him, education remains the bedrock of sustainable development, and as such, his administration has placed deliberate focus on strengthening the educational sector through improved infrastructure, teacher motivation, and the promotion of literacy and vocational skills.
“From the very beginning of this administration, we have made deliberate efforts to strengthen education through better school infrastructure and teacher support,” Akposi stated. “Looking ahead, the axis of sustained investment in education remains our next major target. We are determined to build a learning ecosystem that supports both teachers and students—an environment where excellence thrives.”
He further announced that the Akamkpa Local Government Bursary Scheme will not only be sustained but also expanded to cushion the effects of financial hardship on students and ensure that no child is denied education due to lack of resources.
“Our bursary scheme will be sustained and expanded to ease the financial burden on our students. Education must remain a right, not a privilege,” the Chairman declared.
Hon. Akposi also seized the opportunity to celebrate teachers for their resilience and sacrifices in nation-building. Quoting Henry Brooks Adams, he said, “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” He added that teachers deserve not just gratitude but consistent support and respect for the crucial role they play in shaping society.
“As we celebrate this year’s World Teachers’ Day, I call on all stakeholders—parents, community leaders, and development partners—to join hands in uplifting the teaching profession,” he said. “Teachers are the torchbearers of our tomorrow, and Akamkpa will continue to honour and support them.”
The Chairman reaffirmed that his administration will continue to make education a top priority, promising that the coming years will witness a renewed drive towards expanding learning opportunities, modernising facilities, and deepening collaboration with educational institutions for digital and technical advancement.
