The Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Hon. (Ophot) Felix Akposi KSJI, has issued a firm directive to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) to ensure the immediate restoration of power supply to Akamkpa Local Government Area.
This latest move follows weeks of sustained engagement between the council and PHEDC officials, culminating in what appears to be a breakthrough as the company was, as of yesterday, October 7, 2025, putting finishing touches on the reconnection process.
Hon. Akposi, who had earlier visited the PHEDC State Headquarters along Calabar Road, Cross River State, on September 20, 2025, expressed deep dissatisfaction with what he described as the company’s “lax attitude and deceptive excuses” regarding the prolonged blackout in Akamkpa.
“I am surprised that PHEDC is giving the excuse of manpower to clear their lines,” Akposi said during the visit. “Let me state it clearly this moment, should anything happen to the transmission lines taking light to Akamkpa, we will pursue the matter to a logical end. People will surely take responsibility from this office. We have been patient enough, and our patience has worn out.”
In reaffirming his earlier stance, the Chairman maintained that Akamkpa would no longer tolerate excuses or delays from the electricity distribution company. He warned that any act of negligence, including the loss or damage of electrical components, would attract severe consequences.
“The council will not take kindly to any incident of vandalism or missing insulators within the period PHEDC is contracted to deliver on this task,” he cautioned. “This is not the time for excuses; it is time for results.”
Sources close to the local government confirmed that Akposi personally mobilized PHEDC field officers and local support teams to accelerate the line-clearing and reconnection process, ensuring that all technical bottlenecks were addressed. The directive was reportedly accompanied by logistical support to facilitate swift completion of the work.
Earlier, the PHEDC Manager of Operations had attributed the delay in restoring power to manpower shortages, a justification the Chairman dismissed as inadequate. The company has since intensified efforts on site, with technicians seen working on installations and final checks across affected areas of the local government.
Residents of Akamkpa, who have endured months of blackout, expressed optimism that electricity would be fully restored within days, lauding the Chairman’s proactive approach and firm leadership.
With the power lines nearing completion and light expected to return imminently, Akposi’s firm stance appears to have finally jolted PHEDC into action — a move many describe as a much-needed victory for the people of Akamkpa.
