Akamkpa Local Government Council has further expanded its governance structure with the inauguration of five Supervisors and 17 other appointees, bringing the total number of political appointees in the current administration to 50. The ceremony took place on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Council Hall, Akamkpa.
This development is in line with the Cross River State Local Government Law as amended, which empowers Council Chairmen to increase the number of appointees from the initial 28 to 50.
In his address, the Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Hon. (Ophot) Felix Akposi KSJI, described the inauguration as another milestone in his administration’s drive for inclusiveness and people-oriented governance.
“Today, we gather again to make history with the second inauguration of five additional Supervisors and other appointees, swelling the number of appointees in this administration to fifty. This expansion is a reflection of our firm belief that governance is best delivered through inclusiveness, participation, and representation,” he said.
Reaffirming his administration’s people-first approach under the mantra “Serve the People”, Hon. Akposi emphasized the importance of service, humility, and commitment to duty by the newly inaugurated officials. He commended Governor Sen. (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu for his people-friendly policies, which he said continue to inspire the local government.
“To our new Supervisors and appointees, public office is not for self-glorification but a call to service. You must imbibe the spirit of cooperation, unity, and integrity. Our people expect nothing less than dedication, humility, and results,” he charged.
The Chairman also restated his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, particularly the rehabilitation of federal roads in Akamkpa I and II, and assured students in the area of bursary payments soon.
Earlier, the Head of Local Government Administration, Dr. (Mrs.) Obal Esang, in her welcome address, urged the appointees to remain loyal, work in synergy with the Chairman, and uphold the responsibilities of public office.
Also speaking, the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. (Princess) Magdalene Asuquo, represented by her Deputy, Hon. Dominic Akposi Ogar, commended the Chairman’s choice of appointees, describing them as “square pegs in square holes.”
The newly inaugurated Supervisors include:Innocent Aidam Agu – Supervisor for Water Resources, Sanitation and Hygiene, Walter Arek – Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Dr. Pauline – Supervisor for Information and Orientation.
Others are Agbor Agatha – Supervisor for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Ayi Nyong – Supervisor for Transportation.
They were sworn in alongside 17 Special Assistants, Ward Relation Officers, and other appointees.
The event was attended by stakeholders, council officials, and well-wishers.
