In the wake of the recently concluded Local Government election in Cross River State, Mr. Bassey Okon, vice chairmanship candidate of the Labour Party for Calabar Municipal Council, has expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty for His unwavering guidance, protection, and abundant provision throughout the election journey. Okon, who ran alongside chairmanship candidate Shedrach Ikpeme, reflected on their shared aspiration to serve the people of Calabar Municipal, acknowledging the divine hand that upheld him and his team every step of the way.
In a message of appreciation, Okon extended heartfelt thanks to all those who believed in their vision, from supporters who stood by them tirelessly to well-wishers who rooted for the Labour Party’s ideals of progressive leadership. He credited the trust and loyalty of his supporters as a motivating force, affirming that their confidence in his abilities would always hold a special place in his heart. He further prayed that God would continue to provide, guide, and protect everyone who joined him in the mission, adding that he trusts God will answer their silent prayers as He sees best.
Okon extended particular gratitude to the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, for fulfilling a long-awaited desire of the people of Cross River: a local government election that would allow the will of the people to be realised at the grassroots level. “I thank God for giving our Governor the wisdom to steer this state in a direction that lights the path to democracy and opportunity,” he said. Okon noted that such bold steps were only possible with visionary leadership that genuinely values the voice of the people.
The vice chairmanship candidate took a moment to congratulate all victorious candidates, especially Apostle James Anam, who emerged as the elected Chairman of Calabar Municipal Council. “I offer you my full support and best wishes as you embark on this noble journey of leading our Council,” Okon declared. He expressed his hope that the new leadership would prioritise the economic emancipation of Calabar Municipal, tapping into its abundant potential for growth and prosperity.
Further extending his appreciation, Okon addressed both friends and adversaries, acknowledging the influence each group had on his political journey. “To my friends, your advice and encouragement strengthened my resolve, while my critics challenged me to break boundaries and strive for the extraordinary,” he said. Okon described how these varied influences shaped his resolve, ultimately enriching his understanding of leadership and dedication.
In an introspective moment, Okon humbly asked for forgiveness from any individuals who may have felt disappointed during his political journey. “I am aware that my actions may have fallen short of expectations, and for that, I seek your understanding and forgiveness,” he said. He promised that this experience had instilled in him a deepened awareness of the responsibilities associated with leadership, pledging to apply these lessons in ways that better serve his community in the future.
Reflecting on his campaign journey, Okon remarked that this experience had indeed reshaped his political consciousness, igniting in him a renewed zeal to contribute meaningfully to his community. “This journey has not only awakened my political orientation but has also solidified my commitment to the betterment of Calabar Municipal and Cross River State,” he said, affirming his enduring gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
In conclusion, Okon offered his heartfelt thanks once more to every supporter, friend, and well-wisher who stood by him and his team. “The election may be over, but our shared vision for a thriving, progressive Calabar Municipal remains,” he affirmed, urging all stakeholders to join hands in building a prosperous future for the council area.
