This was disclosed in a statement issued bon Wednesday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Anthony Owan Enoh.

According to the statement, the appointment follows the recommendations of the University Governing Council after a rigorous and transparent selection process.

Professor Bassey, a seasoned academic and administrator, assumes the role with immediate effect.

“Her emergence reflects the administration’s abiding faith in meritocracy and the empowerment of capable Cross Riverians to drive institutional growth and excellence,” the SSG stated.

Professor Bassey is widely respected for her academic accomplishments, leadership experience, and commitment to institutional development. Her appointment is seen as a strategic step toward repositioning the university as a centre of innovation and academic excellence.

Governor Otu, while congratulating the new Vice Chancellor, expressed confidence in her ability to provide visionary leadership that aligns with the state’s broader agenda for educational transformation.

“This appointment underscores our commitment to placing the right people in key positions of responsibility. Professor Bassey’s track record speaks for itself, and we are confident she will take UNICROSS to new heights,” the governor said.

The statement added that the state government would give her the necessary support as she undertakes her new responsibilities in service to Cross River and the nation.

Professor Francisca Bassey brings decades of academic and administrative experience to her new role and is expected to lead critical reforms at UNICROSS, focusing on quality education, institutional integrity, and innovative research.
