Eulogies Flow as Cross River NDDC Commissioner Bids Final Farewell to Father-in-Law

The Cross River State representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Orok Duke, has bid a solemn farewell to his father-in-law, the late Sir Edem Ubom, whose funeral rites were observed on Friday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The deceased, a devout Methodist and a man of exemplary character, was laid to rest in the presence of family, friends, and an assemblage of dignitaries.

In a poignant eulogy, Hon. Duke extolled his father-in-law as a “shining example of integrity, selflessness, and compassion.” He lauded the late Ubom’s unwavering commitment to family and society, remarking, “He was a rock, a pillar of strength, and a guiding light to all who knew him.”

The funeral service attracted a vast congregation of mourners, including high-ranking government officials, traditional rulers, and members of the clergy, all paying their last respects to a man revered for his principles and dedication.

In a condolence message, the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, described the deceased as “a great man” whose absence would be deeply felt. The governor urged the bereaved family to take solace in the indelible legacy he left behind.

Born on 25th June 1942 into the family of Chief Wilson Nduke Ubom of Nung Ubom, Ikot Nkim, and Mary of Nung Essiet, Ikot Obio Ndim—both in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area—Sir Edem Ubom distinguished himself in the field of education. He obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1954, a Grade Three Teachers’ Certificate in 1959, a Grade Two Teachers’ Certificate in 1966, and an Associate Diploma in Primary Education from the University of Lagos in 1979.

A dedicated Methodist, he served in various capacities, including Church Steward, Diocesan Treasurer, Pioneer Steward, and Patron of the Boys’ Brigade, leaving an indelible mark on the church community.

He is survived by his wife, Lady Ekaete Udom; daughters, Mrs Victoria Orok Duke and Mrs Eme Queen Tom; son-in-law, Rt. Hon. Orok Duke; as well as
