The Cross River State University of Education and Entrepreneurship has reaffirmed its commitment to producing quality graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurial mindset necessary to meet global challenges.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Asuquo, gave the assurance on Wednesday during the maiden matriculation ceremony held at the institution’s main campus in Awi, Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Addressing the 4,000 pioneering students admitted to pursue various academic programmes focused on entrepreneurship and critical thinking, Prof. Asuquo urged them to remain focused on acquiring practical skills and knowledge that would empower them to thrive in a competitive world.
“Our curriculum has been designed to integrate theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, fostering creativity and critical thinking,” he said, adding that the institution aims to groom graduates who are not just job seekers but job creators.
He assured parents and guardians of the university’s resolve to provide a world-class education that blends academic excellence with practical innovation. “We are committed to churning out graduates with an entrepreneurial mindset, equipped with creative and practical skills, innovative thinking, and problem-solving abilities,” the VC affirmed.
Prof. Asuquo further charged the matriculating students to embrace discipline, uphold good conduct, engage in extracurricular activities, and serve as worthy ambassadors of the institution. He noted that character formation is as vital as academic performance, and students must take their roles seriously in shaping both their personal and professional futures.
He declared that the university is positioned to become “a beacon of educational excellence and entrepreneurial innovation,” pledging his unwavering dedication to nurturing a conducive and safe environment for learning.
The historic matriculation event, which marks a turning point in the educational advancement of Cross River State and the nation, underscores the institution’s goal of expanding access to quality tertiary education and promoting self-reliance among graduates.
Lauding parents and guardians for placing their trust in the institution, the VC reiterated, “The university will do everything possible to provide their wards with a world-class education.”
He noted that the university’s strategic focus on entrepreneurship education would significantly impact the state’s economy. “By producing graduates with entrepreneurial skills, the institution will contribute to the development of small and medium-scale enterprises, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth,” he stated.
While acknowledging that the journey ahead may be dotted with challenges, Prof. Asuquo expressed optimism about the institution’s future. “With resilience, determination, and a shared vision, the university will overcome any hurdle and achieve its lofty goals,” he said.
He concluded by urging the students to “seize the opportunity to learn from every experience, strive for greatness, and equip yourselves with the tools to shape your future.”
