The Canaan Table Tennis Club of Calabar has been officially nominated to represent Nigeria at the 2025 African Club Table Tennis Championships, set to take place from February 22 to 24 at the prestigious Palais des Sports d’El Menzah in Tunis, Tunisia. The nomination, conveyed by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) in a letter to the club’s Chairman, Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, follows deliberations with the Federation President, Engr. Ishaku Tikon. This recognition further solidifies the club’s stature as a dominant force in the sport and provides a platform to showcase their talent on the continental stage.
The championship will bring together elite clubs from across Africa to compete in both the men’s and women’s team events. The tournament will commence with a round-robin group stage, leading to a knockout phase that will determine the final rankings. Teams will be seeded based on their latest rankings, while unranked teams will be assigned slots through a random draw.
In its letter, the NTTF charged the Canaan Table Tennis Club with making all necessary arrangements, including travel logistics, to ensure a seamless participation. Organizers have stressed that any club that registers but fails to attend will be liable for non-appearance costs.
“This nomination is a testament to the club’s commitment to excellence and its invaluable contribution to the growth of Nigerian table tennis,” the federation stated. “We are confident that Canaan will make the nation proud.”
As preparations gather momentum, the club is expected to confirm its participation and intensify training for what promises to be a fiercely contested championship. With a history of strong performances, Canaan Table Tennis Club will be looking to surpass its 2024 feat, where it finished second out of 54 participating countries, further cementing its place among Africa’s elite teams.
