The Cross River State Government has announced plans to host a special Funeral Valedictory Executive Council Session in honour of the late Hon. Chris Agibe, a distinguished former Commissioner and member of the House of Representatives.
According to an official statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Executive Council (EXCO), Mr. Orok Bassey Okon, the solemn session will take place on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Calabar.
Hon. Chris Agibe served Cross River State in various strategic capacities, including Commissioner for Agriculture, Finance, and Works. He was also elected to represent Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, where he was widely respected for his integrity, intellect, and commitment to grassroots development.
The state government has extended a formal invitation to former members of the State Executive Council, particularly those who served between 1999 and 2007, to attend the commemorative session. The event is expected to feature tributes and reflections on the late statesman’s life, service, and legacy.
In the release, Mr. Okon described the late Agibe as “a man of deep conviction and excellence, who played a pivotal role in shaping Cross River’s trajectory during a critical phase in its development.”
“His service to the state was marked by diligence, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to the people. This valedictory session is a fitting tribute to a man whose contributions will continue to inspire generations,” the statement read.
The special session forms part of a series of events lined up to honour the memory of Hon. Agibe, who passed away recently after a brief illness. His passing has drawn widespread condolences from political leaders, colleagues, and constituents, all of whom hailed his uncommon humility and leadership.
The late Hon. Chris Agibe is survived by his wife, children, and extended family. Funeral arrangements are expected to continue in the days following the state executive council session.
