Asuquo Cletus, Calabar

The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS), a prominent spiritual organisation, has refuted claims circulating on social media that its spiritual leader, Olumba Olumba, is battling cancer.

The rumours, which quickly spread across various online platforms, alleged that Olumba had been diagnosed with an advanced stage of cancer and was undergoing treatment abroad.

Addressing journalists recently in Calabar, Patriarch Ogar Osim, the Director of Events for BCS, dismissed the claims as “baseless” and “mischievous.”

“I want to clarify that our Father and spiritual leader is hale and hearty. He has not been diagnosed or treated for cancer, contrary to what has been seen on social media,” Osim stated emphatically.

He continued, “Those posts are the work of mischief-makers who wish harm upon our Father. It is unfounded and malicious. Our Father does not possess any special immunity, like a president, which would shield him from public scrutiny. If, hypothetically, he were unwell and receiving treatment in London, do you not think someone would have taken a photograph with him in the hospital?”

Osim attributed the speculation to Olumba’s occasional absence from public engagements. “People are misinterpreting our Father’s absence from certain public events as a sign of illness. In reality, our Father has simply been undertaking his usual spiritual routines. He often travels discreetly, without fanfare. He may visit places such as the United States, London, or elsewhere for spiritual matters. Let me be clear—there is no cancer. Our Father’s birthday is approaching, and he is perfectly healthy.”

In addition to denying the health-related rumours, the Brotherhood also addressed speculations regarding church succession. Reports that Olumba had relinquished leadership to another cleric were categorically dismissed.

“There has been no succession or transfer of leadership,” Osim declared. “Father remains our spiritual leader and guide.”

He reassured members and followers that Olumba remains dedicated to his spiritual responsibilities and continues to lead the organisation with vigour and commitment.
