The Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Hon. (Ophot) Felix Akposi, KSJI, has officially commenced the long-anticipated road grading exercise in Akamkpa II State Constituency, marking a significant milestone in his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development and rural accessibility.

In a statement by the Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Hon. Akposi underscored the imperative of road rehabilitation in fostering economic activity, alleviating transportation difficulties, and enhancing the overall quality of life for rural dwellers. He acknowledged the delay in execution, noting that while the project had been initially slated for December, unforeseen circumstances had necessitated its deferment.

“We are delighted that relief has finally come to the people of Mbobui. This is a testament to our unwavering dedication to infrastructural advancement in Akamkpa. We are not relenting; this is only the beginning. We have an extensive roadmap for road interventions across Akamkpa I and II, and by divine providence, we shall accomplish them,” the Chairman asserted.

He further allayed concerns regarding deteriorating road conditions in the Achang axis of the Calabar-Oban-Ekang Road, affirming that his administration would not stand idly by while residents grapple with dire mobility challenges. “We acknowledge the constraints posed by the onset of the rainy season, but we will not allow the rains to incapacitate our people. This matter is of utmost priority,” he reassured.

Echoing the Chairman’s stance, the Supervisor for Works and Infrastructure, Elder Abednego Okon, pledged the administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the completion of all approved projects. He emphasised the quality-driven approach of the ongoing works, stating, “We will not be tempted to execute substandard projects that will crumble under the test of time. The Chairman’s vision is clear—durability and excellence.”

The road grading initiative, which commenced in Ojuk North Ward, linking Ikot Effanga in Akpabuyo to Mbobui, is expected to mitigate the long-standing transport hardships endured by the people of Mbobui, who have, for years, remained cut off from the benefits of well-maintained road infrastructure. This intervention heralds a new dawn for the agrarian community, unlocking avenues for economic growth and seamless movement of goods and services.

Expressing gratitude, Engr. Ojong Etta, the SA on Revenue, lauded the Chairman for prioritising the development of his home community. “This singular act is a game-changer. As the first appointee under this government to attract such a monumental project to his people, I am profoundly grateful. This improvement is already making a tangible impact, easing mobility and enhancing the socio-economic dynamics of Mbobui,” he remarked.

Similarly, Mr. Bartholomew Asick extolled the Chairman’s proactive leadership, referring to him as the “Lion Chairman”, and commended his resolve to alleviate the suffering of rural communities. “Ntufam, Felix Akposi, your efforts in grading our community road have not gone unnoticed. For years, we yearned for this development, and today, you have demonstrated the true essence of people-centred governance,” he enthused.

With this initiative, Hon. Felix Akposi has rekindled hopes for sustained infrastructural rejuvenation in Akamkpa, ensuring that no community remains sidelined in the march towards progress. The road grading project stands as a testament to his administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
