In a strategic bid to tackle mounting security challenges in Akamkpa Local Government Area, the Chairman, Hon. (Ophot) Felix Akposi KSJI, paid a crucial visit to the State Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Okoi Obono (Rtd) and the State Security Adviser South, Naval Commander Patrick Odiong (Rtd), in Calabar. The meeting underscored the need for a concerted approach to combat crime through intelligence sharing and unwavering support between the local council and state security structures.
Hon. Akposi, whose administration has placed security as a core mandate, emphasized the necessity of the collaboration. “Security is one of my primary responsibilities, and this partnership will extend beyond today’s meeting,” Akposi asserted. “Together, we shall address all forms of criminality, including drug abuse, which has been a significant driver of crime.” His words captured a resolute commitment to fostering enduring and effective security measures.
The visit was marked by a rousing welcome from Maj. Gen. Okoi Obono (Rtd), who commended the Chairman’s proactive stance. “I have been briefed on the steps you have taken, which reflect your passion and commitment to tackling crime,” the retired General noted. “This is indeed a partnership that will bear fruitful outcomes.” The exchange highlighted mutual recognition of the gravity of security threats and the urgency to contain them collaboratively.
In his remarks, the State Security Adviser South, Naval Commander Patrick Odiong (Rtd), extolled Akposi’s work ethic and swift mobilization of security agencies. “You did not wait to be prompted but took decisive action,” he said. “This goes to prove that Akamkpa is in capable hands. I have full confidence in your ability to deliver.” His words encapsulated the admiration and trust the state’s security chiefs have in the Chairman’s approach to crime prevention.
The advisers took a reflective stance on recent criminal incidents, describing them as regrettable actions by “daredevils” whose attempts to disrupt peace would be met with decisive force. “There will be no hiding place,” they declared, signalling a zero-tolerance policy for criminality in Akamkpa and surrounding areas.
Emphasizing the critical role of communal vigilance, the leaders urged residents to remain alert and responsive. “Security is a collective responsibility,” Maj. Gen. Obono added. “If you see, hear, feel, or experience anything unusual, report it immediately.” Their counsel highlighted the importance of public collaboration in sustaining law and order.
The synergy established in this meeting, both leaders agreed, represents a turning point in the security framework of Akamkpa Local Government Area. For Hon. Akposi, it marks the beginning of a transformative and enduring partnership dedicated to securing lives and properties within the LGA.
