In a decisive move to promote peace and constructive dialogue, the leadership of the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN) and the Tourism Volunteer Network of Cross River State Chapter has called on its members to abstain from violent protests. This appeal was made in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, during an interview with Ambassador Bassey Nton Nton, the head of the organizations.
Ambassador Nton Nton underscored the pivotal role of the Tourism Volunteer Network, emphasizing its mission of bolstering the government’s tourism initiatives through dedicated volunteerism. “Our efforts are not confined to Cross River State, renowned as the home of tourism, but extend to Nigeria, Africa, and the global promotion of tourism,” he remarked.
Highlighting the contributions of the NYAN Cross River State Chapter, Nton Nton pointed to its decade-long commitment to youth engagement, innovation, entrepreneurship, and the advocacy of good governance. “The National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN) Cross River State Chapter remains a vibrant, youth-focused organization dedicated to fostering youth participation in governance, upholding the principles of equity, freedom, and justice, and advocating for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he stated.
Ambassador Nton Nton reaffirmed that both organizations are dedicated to achieving their goals through peaceful and constructive means. “We will not be part of any protest at this time. Instead, let us engage the government in progressive deliberations to foster growth,” he urged.
He noted that this resolution was reached after extensive consultations with stakeholders and various groups, reflecting a collective commitment to peace and development. “Our focus must be on productive dialogue and collaboration with the government for sustainable development,” he concluded.
In his closing remarks, Ambassador Nton Nton reiterated the importance of shunning violent protests and instead, pursuing avenues that encourage meaningful and impactful discussions with the government.
