Primetime News authoritatively reports that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has successfully delivered on its commitment to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Cross River State Command by installing fifteen solar lights across the Command premises, flag house, and barracks. This initiative marks a significant stride in improving security and operational efficiency for the Command.
Earlier this year, on March 26, Hon. (Chief) Orok Duke, the NDDC State Representative for Cross River State, visited the Command and pledged to enhance its infrastructure. This promise has now been actualized, with installation work commencing on May 21 and concluding on May 22, 2024. The newly installed solar lights have already started making a notable difference, as evidenced by the photographs taken at night, which depict the brightly illuminated areas.
The State Rep. expressed his satisfaction with the project’s completion, highlighting the importance of such infrastructure improvements. “Ensuring that our security agencies have the necessary tools to perform their duties effectively is a priority for the NDDC,” said Chief Duke. “The installation of these solar lights is just one step towards creating a more secure and efficient environment for the NIS.”
The initiative has been warmly received by the NIS Cross River State Command. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASI2 DI Omelagah, noted the immediate benefits of the solar lights. “These installations have significantly improved visibility within our premises, enhancing security for our personnel and visitors,” Omelagah stated. “We are grateful to the NDDC for their support and commitment to our operational needs.”
In addition to improving security, the solar lights are also expected to reduce the Command’s energy costs and environmental footprint. Solar energy is a sustainable and cost-effective solution, aligning with broader efforts to promote renewable energy sources within government operations.
The project also underscores the collaborative efforts between different government agencies to address infrastructural challenges. By working together, the NDDC and NIS are setting a positive example of how inter-agency cooperation can lead to tangible improvements in public service facilities.
Residents in the surrounding areas have also expressed their appreciation for the enhanced security measures. The illuminated premises not only safeguard the Command’s facilities but also contribute to the overall safety of the neighborhood, deterring criminal activities and providing peace of mind to the community.
As the NDDC continues its efforts to support development across the Niger Delta region, this project serves as a reminder of the positive impact that targeted infrastructural improvements can have. Moving forward, both the NDDC and NIS have expressed their commitment to maintaining and expanding such initiatives to further enhance operational capabilities and community well-being.
